You may remember that in my very first post I stated that I wanted to be on TV, and there is a reason for that. Well today is the day that I explain it, and all will fit into place.
As you might have guessed, I am disabled (it also says in the description). That in itself comes with multiple societal issues. One of those issues, is the stigma that comes along with a severe disability. This stigma includes anything from people staring at you in the streets, to being awkward when trying to talk to you. Well, I want to change that.
The media is one of the biggest industries to make an impact on our society. Millions upon millions of people absorb the media everyday and it shapes the way that we approach our day to day lives. Whether it's watching it live on TV or streaming it on your phone, you are always absorbing some kind of media. There is literally no way to escape it!
I personally cannot decide which part of television I want to get into. I am tossing between three main ideas. Magazine shows, Politics and Children's TV. I have chosen these as I feel they all have aspects I can use to achieve my goal.
Magazine shows are a great way to get one message to multiple generations. If a disabled individual presented a dinner time family show, then the person in question would therefore become a household name. So, I would hope that the idea of a disabled person being influential to multiple age ranges would help to destroy the stigma.
I suppose politics is more targeted at the older generation but it would still impose a powerful message. I believe that there are still people out there who think that disabled people cannot think for themselves. This means that if I became a political correspondent, it would show a severely disabled person in a highly academic situation. I therefore think this would help to break down the stigma.

Finally, Children's TV. I feel that this would be most effective for the future generation. The idea, is that if you get the idea of disability into the minds of children at an early age, they will be more likely to accept it in the coming years. I know that children ask the most insane questions, and I really don't mind that! Let's hope that if there are more disabled presenters on Children's TV then children might ask even more questions. I would hope that it would affect the parents as well. I've noticed that when kids ask these questions, the parents automatically pull them back, away from the situation and tell them not to do that. Well I would encourage any parents reading this not to do that! The only way the kids are going to learn is if they ask questions. I would have thought that this would therefore eradicate the stigma.
I have no idea what is going to happen in my career, but what I have told you today is the pure essence of why I want to go into this profession. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. Who knows?

Stay safe.
Keep on rolling!

I think you would make an amazing childrens tv presenter. I, for one, have never stopped my 2 girls asking questions to anybody. In actual fact when Abi was 4 and we were in a chemist and an elderly lady commented on her pretty dress and lovely smile. She replied with a 'thank you, my aunt brought it for me' and then asked the man who was with her why he was in a wheelchair. He actually looked a bit shocked at first, possibly wasn't used to being asked outright but he actually smiled and told her that when he was younger he was doing something he really shouldn't have been doing on his motorbike and when she grew up she had to promise she would always listen to instructions and always be honest with her mum and dad so she could stay healthy. I loved the way he responded and that encounter has stayed with me since. Best of luck to you. I know you will be successful in whatever you set out to achieve x
