So, here we are. The 31st of December 2020. This year has been a bit weird to say the least. I know I haven't posted in awhile but from today that's going to change. I have a feeling that in the next year, everyone is going to have a lot of spare time on their hands.
The dreaded Rona has taken over everybody's lives in one way or another and it has tipped our lives upside down. Even I was infected with it, but thankfully came out unscathed. We have lost those who mean the most to us, and lives have been on the line at times, but we have made it! You should be proud of yourselfs, every single one of you. We have been through the most unprecedented times since (in my opinion), the Second World War.
There are so many people who should be thanked today. All of those who have looked after us in hospital, care homes and, in my case, carers in the home. To all of you I salute you. You have all been there when we needed you the most and I think you should all get a pay rise and get a house in the Bahamas or something… or maybe we should just appreciate you more. Without all of you half of us would not be here today.
Nevertheless, some amazing things have happened this year which has demonstrated that there is hope for humanity yet. The legendary, Captain Tom Moore, raised over £32 million for the NHS at the age of 99, in the run-up to his 100th birthday. How great is that? The majority of people hate taking the bins out, and yet this hero did laps of his garden for a national cause without being asked to do so. If that doesn't fill you with hope, happiness and a sense of sincerity then I don't know what will. This is just one example of how the nation has come together to support one another. However, we still need to keep going. The virus hasn't gone yet and people still aren't safe. Do what you can to stop it and don't give up.
Now I know that to some extent my voice doesn't even matter. I'm just a guy on the internet, hoping that someone out there will hear him. But as we go into 2021 please remember this. Think about one another. We are all lonely, we all want the pandemic to be over and we are all struggling. So if there is someone who you haven't spoken to in awhile, send them a message, see how they are. That small interaction could be the difference between someone sitting alone, spiralling into a negative mental state, and the birth of a deep and meaningful friendship.
So please remember to stay safe, be hopeful and here's to a better 2021.
Keep on rolling!
